convenient way to see 16 teams play. Coaches, parents, and players intermingled with each other which created a great atmosphere. In one time slot we had Monroe vs. Cardoza; Clinton vs. Grand St. and Adams vs. Tottenville. High school baseball cannot get much better than that. Last year Tottenville High School entered the Monroe Tournament for the first time in over 25 years and they went on to have a great season, winning the New York City P.S.A.L. Championship.
The tourney begins on Saturday, April 15, at various high school fields. On Monday, April 17, the whole tourney moves to the American Legion. This years Championship game will either be at the Legion or at a special site to be announced.
Tournament RulesThere will be both team and individual trophies for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams. There will also be championship T-shirts for the winners. There are 4 special awards given to the MVP, Batting Champ, Most valuable pitcher and Best Sportsman.
The competition in the Monroe Tournament has been exceptional over the years. Teams play 4 to 7 games in 5 days. Many coaches measure how well their team will do against some of the cities elite teams. All public, parochial and private schools are invited, not only from NYC. Last year over 20 colleges and 15 professional scouts attended.
