El Serie del Caribe 2007 Carolina Puerto Rico LogoPuerto Rico EcoTourism Travel

All major airlines travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico. High season runs from mid-December through mid-April.

Puerto Rico is approximately 100 miles east to west by 30 miles north to south. The island allows you to fill your schedule easily. Swim a Blue Bay, Hike a Rain Forest and Snorkel off an island.

1) Laguna Grande, Mosquito Bay. Home to thousands of single-celled bioluminescent dinoflagellates - tiny plantlike organisms that glow neon-blue when disturbed. On moonless nights, they provide the only source of light in the bay.

2) El Yunque Rain Forest is the only tropical rain forest in the U.S. National Forest System. More than 100 billion gallons of rain fall each year on the 28,000 acres of El Yunque. Everything seems bigger, wetter, louder and more pungent in the rain forest even the iguanas.

There are 13 hiking trails across the national park and it's home to more than 240 different kind of trees, orchids, tiny coqui and the cotorra, the endangered green parrot of Puerto Rico.

3) Culebra Island (sister island of Vieques) You can cath a 90-minute ferry ride from Fajardo to Dewey, the only town on one of Puerto Rico's most popular snorkeling sites, Culebra island.

At Culebra Divers, you can rent gear for $12.00, and catch a $2 bus ride to Flamenco Beach.

There is no place quite like a tropical volcanic island, and no island in the Caribbean quite like Puerto Rico. The geography of the island is very unusual, as it encompasses distinctly different kinds of topography and microclimates in a relatively small area.
