Yankee Stadium April 18, 1923: Babe Ruth hit the 1st home run as the New York Yankees opened their $2.5 million Yankee Stadium, with a 4-1 victory over the Bosotn Red Sox with a crowd of over 74,200.

Yankee Stadium July 4, 1939: "Lou Gehrig Farewell Speech" Sold out Yankee Stadium, Lou Gehrig spoke into a microphone near home plate and said that he was "The luckiest man on the face of the earth." The ceremonies paid tribute to the Yankees' captain, who had announced his retirement on June 21, 1939 after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The Yankees retired Gehrig's No. 4 that afternoon, and he was elected to the Hall of Fame in December 1939.

Yankee Stadium Oct. 8, 1956: "Don Larsen World Series Perfect Game" Don Larsen, pitched a perfect game in the 1956 World Series. After the final pitch, Yankee catcher Yogi Berra charged to the mound and leapt into Larsen's arms, creating one of the most memorable images in baseball history.

Yankee Stadium Oct. 1, 1961: "Roger Maris 61st Home Run" Roger Maris hit his 61st home run on the final day of the regular season, passing Babe Ruth's mark of 60 home runs set in 1927.

Yankee Stadium Oct. 18, 1977: "Reggie Jackson's Three World series Home Runs" Mr. October, Reggie Jackson hit three home runs on three pitches from three different Los Angeles Dodger pitchers. This day marked Reggies new name "Mr. October" after the three HRs of Dodger pitchers Burt Hooton, Elias Sosa and Charlie Hough. The 1977 World Series Title was their first WS title since 1962.

Yankee Stadium July 18, 1999: "David Cone's Perfect Game" on Yogi Berra Day. David Cone's perfect game opened with the Yankees honoring Yogi Berra, who caught the first pitch from Larsen almost 43 years after they teamed for the only perfect game in World Series history.

Yankee Stadium Nov. 1, 2001: "Derek Jeter Mr. November" It was the moment Derek Jeter earned the nickname "Mr. November," taking center stage in an emotionally-charged World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Derek Jeter hit a game winning home run over the right field fence at 12:03 a.m. This was the the first World Series game played in the month of November.

Yankee Stadium Oct. 16, 2003
: In one of the most dramatic endings to an American League Championship Series, Aaron Boone clubbed a knuckleball from Tim Wakefield over the left-field wall in the bottom of the 11th inning, giving the Yankees a 6-5 victory and sending New York to the World Series.

Yankee Stadium July 1, 2004: In one of the iconic replays that will define his career, Jeter suffered a laceration of the cheek and bruised right shoulder diving into the stands for a foul in the 12th inning by Boston's Trot Nixon. Jeter was forced out of the game, another one of the typical heart stopping, drag-out affairs between the Yankees and the Red Sox.

Yankee Stadium Sept. 21, 2008: The end of an era at Yankee Stadium as the final game is played in the ballpark's long and storied history. The gates opened seven hours early, so fans could walk the warning track one final time leaving handprints all over the outfield walls and a stirring pregame ceremony paid tributes to the largest collection of Yankees greats ever assembled on one field. The Yankees defeated the Orioles, 7-3, Jose Molina hit the final home run in the Yankee Stadium 85 year history.
