James Monroe 2005 Baseball Tournament - New York City High School Baseball
Victor Aracena hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh as Monroe, which squandered an 11-run lead, held off John Adams, 18-17, in the Monroe Tournament semifinal in baseball yesterday. Carlos Fermin had two hits and three RBIs, and Danny Fernandez added two RBIs for the Eagles (20-0), who will face Clinton in the finals at 10 a.m. today at Brooklyn American Legion Field. Pablo Carrasco had two hits and four RBIs for John Adams (22-3). MH.
DeWitt Clinton 7, Tottenville 6: Gil Garcia had two home runs and four RBIs for Clinton (16-7) in the other Monroe Tournament semifinal.
Molloy 4, Christ the King 0: Matt Doran struck out five in a two-hit shutout and Andrew Kapela was 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBIs for Molloy (7-5, 5-3 CHSAA).
St. Francis Prep 18, Holy Cross 7: Alex Pinto was 3-for-3 and Jason Kaye was 2-for-4 and both players hit grand slams for St. Francis Prep (9-5, 5-3 CHSAA).
McClancy 4, St. Edmund Prep 0: Andrew Guarrasi pitched a two-hiter and struck out nine, and Bob Gorvetzian added a hit and an RBI for McClancy (4-4 CHSAA).
St. Ann's 22, Packer 4: Maxim Lebowitz-Nowak was 3-for-4 with four RBIs, John Watkins was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Eric Silverman had four RBIs for St. Ann's (10-1).
Nazareth 12, United Nations International School 11: Tyrone Benjamin's two-run single lifted Nazareth (9-1, 8-0 PSAA) in the eighth inning. Ronnie Rojas had four hits and four RBIs in the win.
